Richie is named for Richwood, WV, a small, depressed Appalachian town where he was born. Part of a neglected litter of kittens who were living in absolute squalor, he and a brother were rescued by a group of friends who were on a work mission helping poverty-stricken residents with home improvements. He came home just a day or two after being weened from his mother. Comically, the 8-month old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel that he came home to had just been through heat, and the two bonded in a mother-son kind of way. The dog thought she had a puppy, and the kitten thought he had a new mommy.

Today, Richie is a very mellow 10-year old cat. He still enjoys watching the dogs play, and will occasionally start his own banter with his adopted “mom.” He loves to sit on the couch by the window. He craves being petted, but has a touch of typical cat-like moodiness (it has to be on his terms). He likes to eat, and will sit by the cat bowl, but has no interest in human food. When he was able to do so, he really enjoyed sleeping in the bed with his humans, though severe allergies have prevented that with new people in the home (the primary reason he must find a new family). He is very bonded to his cat partner, Bomber, who joined him two years into his life.

Both Richie and Bomber need to find a new home together where they will be loved and provided better attention . A new marriage has brought new family members into our home, and two of the family have severe allergies to cats. Allergy induced asthma that has proven uncontrollable through medication and even quarantining parts of the home make this difficult decision medically necessary. Also, the cats are suffering being excluded from the bedrooms and sitting rooms areas, so they are not able to enjoy human company during the majority of our time at home. They are crying outside our bedroom door from time to time, telling us that they really want to be a full participant in the family. We are very hopeful that a cat-loving home will provide them the attention they deserve, and we are certain that cat-lovers will be blessed with this  perfect and well-bonded pair .  Many thanks are extended in advance to the family that chooses to adopt them. You will set our hearts at ease that our difficult decision to re-home them will provide a much better quality of life than our health situation at home is currently affording them.
