Tiny Sky arrived at an urban shelter just 10 months old with 9 kittens in tow, 8 orange boys and 1 brown tabby girl. They were surrendered by an elderly lady who could no longer care for herself, let alone her multiple, mainly orange, kitties. Only 4 of the 9 kittens are Sky’s own; she adopted 5 who had been abandoned by one of her “cousins”. (Yes, that means that Sky is a foster kitten AND a foster mom.) Although Sky was nursing almost 24 hours a day, she was unable to make enough milk for the babies, and she and the babies were very underweight. The babies were barely the size of 1 to 2 week old kittens, yet their eyes were all open and they could climb and do things kittens do at 3-4 weeks! Supplemental bottle feedings from foster mom and dad allowed the babies to catch up, but didn’t make a dent in Sky’s devotion to her little ones. She is one of the best mothers we have ever seen ... super protective, attentive and loving—and sweetly spends one-on-one time, inspecting every inch of every baby, every day.
Now that her kittens are ready for adoption, Sky is ready to be a kitten! Although rather shy with strangers, once she knows you, Sky is extremely affectionate. She loooves to sit on her foster mom's lap, purrs when picked up, and loves to play and be petted. Sky is bonded with her foster sister, Chynna, and would love to be adopted with her or with any of her kittens. (If we were to ask Sky, we know she would say she would like to be adopted with Chynna and ALL of the kittens!)
Sky is fine with the adult cats in her foster home. She clearly is used to being around other cats and is very interested in the resident cats, including their 16-year old matriarch. If you have an older cat and want to add two sweet young cats, Sky and Chynna, or Sky and a kitten would be perfect. We strongly feel that she does need a companion kitten as she loves to play and run.
Sky is very good with adults, gentle children and other cats.
