On its face, Stella and Bella’s story is a pretty typical rescue tale: two cats, both pregnant, turned into a city shelter by the same person at the height of kitten season. But there is nothing typical about these girls. They are extraordinarily sweet and every day with them, we are grateful that we decided to place them in the same foster home, even though we had no idea if they even got along and were prepared to separate them if they didn’t.  Do they get along? Indeed they do—they love each other deeply and devotedly. Between them, they had 6 kittens within 4 days of each other. The girls were—and are still—the best mothers (they nursed  their babies interchangeably!). Stella and Bella MUST be adopted together. 

The photo of two cats in a topless cat carrier below was taken minutes after Stella wedged herself into Bella's carrier to be with her sister, who she hadn't seen in two weeks! The girls kneaded against each other and washed each other's faces. And then Stella examined Bella's 1-day old kittens carefully and bathed them thoroughly from nose to tail, while exhausted Bella rested and purred!

UPDATE August 17, 2014: Stella and Bella's dreams have come true: they have been adopted together and will go home to their new home (in Mommy's new car :)) really soon!
