When sweet Bugs came to us, he had not had any previous dental care and as a result his poor mouth was very painful, with most of his teeth broken and decaying. This caused him to not only have bad gingivitis but also stomatitis, which is an inflammation of the oral tissues (mouth, gums, tongue, etc.)  What pain this poor boy was in!  We immediately had a dental done on him to remove many of the broken and decaying teeth and provide some relief for Bugs.  After healing and being much improved, he is now ready for his last dental during which the remaining teeth will be removed.  This is called a full mouth extraction (FME) and provides great relief for cats suffering from stomatitis. Cats with a FME happily (and without pain) eat both dry and canned food, so there is no concern there!

While the FME will alleviate Bugs' stomatitis, this is something that might need to be monitored throughout his life to catch any possible future flare-ups. He may have none at all, but if he does, the treatment is usually a short-term course of a steroid.

Bugs is truly one of the funniest, sweetest cats we have ever met with one of the most unique personalities!
